"Solidarność for the Future" Conference
Gdańsk, Poland, December 6, 2008
Over 25 years ago Solidarność was born in Poland. This unique social movement was guided by principles such as social solidarity and peaceful resolution of conflicts, but the most precious value for all its members was the dignity of man.
Because the Solidarność movement united almost the entire nation, it was possible to overthrow the totalitarian system and regain Poland's independence. It was in Poland that the chain of events started which later led to the breaking down of the Iron curtain and ending the Cold War arms race.
Today the globalizing world opens new challenges to the international community and today's global challenges are a reminder to us that it is necessary to go back to the values which lay at the core of Solidarność.
These are the issues we want to discuss during the "Solidarność for the Future" conference organized on the 25th anniversary of awarding Lech Wałęsa the Nobel Peace Prize
